Ohlone softball awaits seed; Chabot needs wins

Ohlone Renegades softball ended their season on an eight-game winning streak, going 3-0 last week in softball (Mission of Santa Clara, 12-1, on Tuesday, April 14; De Anza of Cupertino, 9-0, on April 16; and Chabot, 2-0, on April 18). They finished 16-1 in Coast Conference North (CCN) Division play, 35-9 overall.

In the Ohlone-Chabot game, starting and winning pitcher was sophomore Kelly Colker, to improve her record to 21-6 on the year. She gave up two hits and four walks while striking out eight. Leading hitters for the Renegades were Cat Sumner, with two singles and a run scored; Jamie Miller, with a single and a run scored; and Ashtyn Mullin, with an RBI single.

Taking the loss was Chabot sophomore starting pitcher Emily Cipolla, dropping her to 3-6. She gave up seven hits and a walk with two strikeouts. Leading hitter for the Gladiators was sophomore first baseman Rachael Kroneder, going 1-1 with two walks.

Renegades Head Coach Donna Runyon will find out on Friday, April 24, who they will face in the first round, best two-out-of-three format. Game one will be on Saturday, May 2, and games two and three (if necessary), Sunday, May 3.

If Ohlone is among the top eight overall seeds, they will be the home team in the playoff. However, if the Lady Renegades win in the first round, they will hit the road for the second round of games the following weekend if all top seeds win out.

This year's state tournament, pitting the four remaining teams each from NorCal and SoCal, will be played May 14-17 in Salinas. Check next week's edition of the Tri-City Voice for the Nor Cal Regional pairings in the first round play.
