Runyon’s girls enjoy an accomplished year

Feather River ousts Ohlone in first round
May 6, 2010, Ohlone College Monitor - It was the bittersweet ending that no one wanted. The tears rolling down their faces signified the depth of the moment they were trapped in. Hugs were given out, but none of the congratulatory type, these ones were more along the lines of the farewell type. None of them wanted to leave. Ohlone upset in first round
May 4, 2010, Tri-City Voice - Ohlone College Renegades, champions of Coast Conference North (CCN) for the eighth consecutive year faced Feather River College Golden Eagles of Quincy, co-champions of the Golden Valley Conference, last weekend in a best two-out-of-three format in the California Community College Round 1 Nor Cal Regional Tournament. Lady Renegades rack up conference awards
April 29, 2010, Ohlone College Monitor - Ohlone Head Coach Donna Runyon has had a lot to smile about this past week. Her team grabbed another Coast Conference North Division Title for the 12th time in her career. This year’s title also marks the team’s eighth title in a row. On top of that, her team was granted a spot in the Northern California Regional Playoffs, an event that kicks off this weeken. Read more Lady Renegades rack up conference awards (PDF).
Softball does it again!
Can you believe this amazing run?!!!!
April 28, 2010 - The Renegade Softball team has once again launched into the post-season. From what we have calculated, this is the 22nd playoff run over the past 23 years. Also, this represents the 8th consecutive Coast Conference Championship!
The Lady Renegades (seeded #7 with a record of 27-9-1) will be challenged this weekend by the Feather River Golden Eagles (seeded #10 with a record of 27-10).
First pitch on Saturday, May 1, will be at 2:00 pm. Sunday, May 2, will have a first pitch of 12:00pm and a possible 3rd game at 2:00pm. This series will be best 2 out of 3.
General Admission is $10 per day. Admission drops to $5 for faculty, staff, students (with valid ID), seniors 60 and over, and children 12 and under.
Should you happen to see Coach Donna Runyon (2010 Coast Conference Coach of the Year) and/or any of her student athletes, please make sure you congratulate them for an inspirational season!
I hope to see you all at the softball field on Saturday and Sunday. Go Renegades!

April 27, 2010, Tri-City Voice - Ohlone Renegades softball won its eighth straight Coast Conference North championship and another trip to the California Community College playoffs. Read more Ohlone heads to post season.
Ohlone goes 9-1 to end regular season
April 22, 2010, Ohlone College Monitor - The Ohlone Lady Renegades ended their regular season on a lot of high notes. First, there was that nine-game win streak they had ripped off. Secondly, there was Shelby Tomasello’s walk-off grand slam against De Anza on sophomore day. Continuing, freshman pitcher Jessica Varady was also named the CCCAA Female Athlete for the month of March. And to make matters even sweeter, there was the season sweep of rival Chabot College, which they completed back on Thursday, April 15. Read more Ohlone goes 9-1 to end regular season (PDF).
Ohlone softball moving on to playoffs
April 21, 2010, Tri-City Voice - Last Wednesday, April 14, Ohlone Renegades softball team played its second game of the season against Coast Conference North (CCN) foe, De Anza of Cupertino. Tomasello walks off in grand fashion
April 15, 2010, Ohlone College Monitor - Conventional wisdom usually speaks against walking the three-hole hitter to get to the clean-up hitter. So when De Anza pitcher Blanka Molina intentionally walked Jessica Varady to face Shelby Tomasello in a 3-3 game already in extra innings to load the bases, everyone in the Ohlone dugout was left scratching their heads. Community college softball recap
April 14, 2010, Tri-City Voice - For Ohlone it was a week of not much competition. Thursday, April 8, the Renegades traveled to Mission in a venue change because of wet grounds at Mission earlier in the year. Ohlone jumped out to an early lead, scoring six, first-inning runs without the luxury of a hit. Ohlone plates its six runs on three Mission errors, three hit batters, one walk and numerous illegal pitches (which result in balls to the batters and balks to the base runners). April 8, 2010, Ohlone College Monitor - The Ohlone Lady Renegades enjoyed their spring break thoroughly as they swept all of their contests. On Monday, March 29, Ohlone’s diamond girls made up a postponed games against heated rival Chabot College. April 7, 2010, Tri-City Voice - Ohlone Renegades and Chabot Gladiators softball teams played the first of two home-and-home Coast Conference North (CCN) league games on Monday, March 29, on the Fremont Campus. Ohlone drops two heart breakers at home
March 31, 2010, Tri-City Voice - Ohlone College Lady Renegades softball of Coast Conference North (CCN), coming off a five-game sweep in the Napa Valley Tournament, dropped two heart-breaking contests against Coast Conference South (CCS) foes during last week's play. March 24, 2010, Tri-City Voice - Against Ohlone, after going scoreless in the first two innings, Siskiyous plated four runs in four innings off an RBI groundout and three solo homers. Ohlone got on the scoreboard against Jordyn Brown in the bottom of the seventh when Shelby Tomasello singled home Julyssa Perry it 4-1, which would hold for the final. A weekend of madness for the Lady Renegades
March 18, 2010, Ohlone College Monitor - The Ohlone College March Madness Softball Tournament lived up to its billing this past weekend, it was madness. After rain showers on Friday dampened the fields of play for Saturday, tournament coordinator and Ohlone Head Coach Donna Runyon was forced to shorten the tournament to a one-day affair on Sunday. Weather disrupts March Madness tourney
March 17, 2010, Tri-City Voice - 18th Annual March Madness softball tournament, hosted by Ohlone College, was to be held Saturday and Sunday, March 13-14, on the softball fields of Fremont's Central Park. March 10, 2010, Tri-City Voice - Central Park in Fremont is set to host the 18th Annual March Madness softball tournament on Saturday and Sunday, March 13-14. Ohlone College plays as the hosts of the 16-team tourney which is held on fields 3, 4, 5 and 6 of the Central Park grounds. Community colleges across Northern and Central California - including Chabot College of Hayward - will play three games on day one of the tournament and anywhere from one to three games on day two. Varady hurls 3-0 no-hitter against Cabrillo College
March 11, 2010, Ohlone College Monitor - In the fifth inning, Jessica Varady was in dangerous territory. She was possibly looking at giving up the first run of a 0-0 contest. Weekend weather gives softballers chance to play
March 10, 2010, Tri-City Voice - For the second week in a row, Mother Nature wiped out Ohlone Renegade and Chabot Gladiator softball games. Ohlone's game at De Anza of Cupertino on Tuesday, March 2…had to be rescheduled. Read more Weekend weather gives softballers chance to play.

The March 4 softball game against Chabot is cancelled and will be rescheduled.
Update: This game is rescheduled for Monday, March 29 at 3:00pm at Ohlone.
Freshmen impress in debut
February 25, 2010, Ohlone College Monitor - After opening the year with eight straight games on the road, the Ohlone softball team found solace when they stepped onto their home diamond last Thursday. February 17, 2010, Tri-City Voice - Coaches Chelsea Spencer of Chabot and Donna Runyon of Ohlone [emphasis added] are looking forward to taking their respective team to the next level in the 2010 softball season. For Chabot, that would be a Coast Conference North (CCN) Championship and a place in the 16-team California Community College (CCC) NorCal Regional Tournament; Ohlone would like an eighth straight CCN Championship and a CCC State Championship. Ohlone prepares for approaching season
December 10, 2009, Ohlone College Monitor - The Ohlone Renegades Softball season is set to begin Feb. 2, opening up against Modesto College. Colker joins the Wolfpack
July 8, 2009, Tri-City Voice - After a successful two-year career at Ohlone College, former Lady Renegades pitcher Kelly Colker will take her game up a level, committing to Division-I University of Nevada at Reno, where she'll major in Hospitality Administration/ Management. Ohlone softball players Colker, Miller bound for Division I programs
July 2, 2009, Inside Bay Area - Ohlone College pitcher Kelly Colker and shortstop Jamie Miller are headed to Division I softball programs. Colker, a Newark Memorial High graduate and two-time All-State first-team selection, has orally committed to Nevada. Ohlone Softball lands prize recruit
June 10, 2009, Tri-City Voice - Even before the current season ends, college coaches have to hit the recruiting trail to be able to compete the following season in their chosen sport. For Ohlone College Renegades' softball Head Coach Donna Runyon, this year was no different even though her team advanced to the California State Community College Tournament for the first time. … Along Coach Runyon's recruiting trail, which included scouting high school softball games, she came across a senior pitcher from the Livermore High Cowboys named Jessica Varady. All the 5-foot-4, 123 pound Varady did was lead her Cowboy teammates to the North Coast Section (NCS) Division I 2009 softball championship. Read more Ohlone Softball lands prize recruit.
