Ohlone Renegades also had its CCN opener last week and they defeated the College of San Mateo on Tuesday, Feb. 16, 8-3, in a road encounter; and Foothill, 8-0, in five innings at home on Thursday, Feb. 18.
Against San Mateo, Ohlone jumped out to a 6-0 lead with four runs in the first inning and two more in the second. Each would score a run in the fifth with Ohlone adding another in the top of the sixth and San Mateo answering with two in its half of the sixth.
Freshman Jessica Varaday went the distance for the Renegades allowing five hits, two walks and striking out three. Sophomore second baseman Julyssa Perry was 1-2 with two walks; Varaday went 3-4 with a home run; freshman first baseman Megan Ramierz was 3-3 with a sacrifice bunt; and sophomore left fielder Maria Jones went 2-4 including a triple.
In the Foothill game, Varaday pitched the whole five innings while surrendering just two hits and striking out six. She also went 2-3 at the plate including a double and an RBI. Freshman Stephanie Hatley was 3-3 with a triple, double, two runs scored and two RBIs; Jones went 2-3 with a double and three RBIs; and sophomore Shelby Tomasello went 2-3 including a double and two runs scored.
