For Ohlone it was a week of not much competition. Thursday, April 8, the Renegades traveled to Mission in a venue change because of wet grounds at Mission earlier in the year. Ohlone jumped out to an early lead, scoring six, first-inning runs without the luxury of a hit. Ohlone plates its six runs on three Mission errors, three hit batters, one walk and numerous illegal pitches (which result in balls to the batters and balks to the base runners).

Ohlone freshman ace and TCV April, 2010, Female Athlete of the Month Jessica Varady pitched all five innings, giving up just three hits with no walks, and she struck out seven. Varady also was the leader at the plate, going 2-3 with a double and six RBIs in the 20-0 win.

Ashley Nahale went 2-4 with an RBI and four runs scored; Megan Ramirez and Candice Christiansen both doubled; and Christiansen also had two RBIs, as did Sesilia Baca.

Saturday, April 10, the league-leading Renegades crossed the Bay to take on Foothill of Los Altos Hills and, again, another one-sided affair emerged. This time the score was 16-1. After Ohlone spotted the hosts a run in the first inning, the Renegades took control with 10 runs in the third.

Again, Varady was on the rubber but she was relieved by sophomore Kendall Beermann to start the Foothill fifth. Beermann had not pitched since March 20 after suffering a setback in recovering from off season shoulder surgery to her pitching arm.

Varady gave up a run on two hits with six strikeouts in her four innings of work while Beermann held the hosts hitless while walking two in her inning of relief.

Hitting stars for the victors were Varady, 1-2 including a grand slam homerun, and Mariah Jones, 2-4 with a two-run homerun and three RBIs. Stephanie Hatley had two hits including a double; and Paulina Gentry and Christiansen had two hits a piece.

On Tuesday, April 13, Ohlone hosted De Anza. Score was unavailable a press time. After the Chabot game on Thursday, April 15, the Renegades will close out its regular season with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 17, at Solano of Fairfield.

First round of the California Community College softball playoffs will be on Saturday and Sunday, May 1-2, with Ohlone hoping to host a first-round, best two-out-of-three match up.
