The Ohlone Women's Volleyball team knew coming into their match against Hartnell College that it was going to be a rough battle. They have not been able to beat Hartnell in at least 4 years, but it has always been a close match. That's why this year, the Lady Renegades were ready to play with determination and leave everything on the court. It paid off as they persevered through four games to an impressive 3-1 victory, (25-14, 26-24, 21-25, 25-11).
Outside Hitter, Jen Covey's 2 aces, 13 kills and 19 digs led the team, who are now 11-2. Senior Lindsey Calabrese also made a statement with 30 digs and Selena Samorano ended the match with 4 blocks.
The Renegades were a force to be reckoned with in the first game. It seemed like our hitters couldn't be stopped and our diggers were always at the right place at the right time. The next two games didn't run as smoothly. You could feel Hartnell's confidence building and our energy slowly dwindling, but after a few words from head coach Jeremy Penaflor the players looked refreshed and really came together as a team to dominate the fourth game. The match turned out to be one for the books!
Check back in a couple weeks after Ohlone faces Chabot here at home on October 10th for the first match of conference play.
