2014-2015 Biography: Liz Rizza, Head Coach - Ohlone College Renegades Women's Basketball
Coach Liz Rizza will start as Head Coach of the Ohlone Women’s Basketball Team effective July 7, 2014 and looks forward to building on the legacy of the Ohlone Dream Team.
Rizza most recently worked as an assistant coach for the Eastern Washington University women's basketball team, joining the program prior to the 2013-14 season. Her primary responsibilities included team travel, recruiting, and video operations while assisting with post player development and academic support.
Rizza was formerly an account executive for the WNBA's Los Angeles Sparks, where she solicited corporate sponsorships, developed business partnerships, sold season and group tickets and booked entertainment for prime time and half time.
Prior to joining the Sparks, Rizza was the head coach of Dana Hills High School's JV squad and an assistant coach for its varsity team during the 2012-13 season. She spent the summer of 2012 as camp director for Pepperdine University Elite, Kid’s, and Team Camps.
Rizza worked as an intern coach for Coach Tara Vanderveer in the Stanford women's basketball 2011-12 season and traveled to the Final Four with the team. Her duties included conditioning, team practices and planning, supporting marketing, video exchange, videographer of practices and games, recruiting database management, and administration of individual and team basketball camps.
Rizza was the assistant coach at Slippery Rock University, Pennsylvania in 2009-2010 and worked as assistant coach and Recruiting Coordinator at Grinnell College, Iowa in 2008-2009. Rizza identified top recruits with 3 point shooting skills and her main emphasis was guard development and defensive specialist. In addition to her basketball coaching experience Rizza brings experience as a Senior TV News Producer for a cable TV company in Iowa.
She played point guard at Chatham University, Pittsburgh where she averaged 11 points and 7 rebounds per game. The San Jose, CA native graduated from South Eugene High School, Oregon in 2003 where she played point guard and at 5’ 6” was the team’s leading scorer and rebounder her senior season while earning 2nd Team All League and Best Defensive player. Rizza also competed in track as a state-level sprinter in the 200m, 400m, 4x100 Relay, 4x400 relay and Long Jump and won district bench press title.
Rizza holds a Bachelor's degree in communication television production from Chatham University and a Master's of Science degree in parks, recreation and resource management from Slippery Rock University.
She currently lives in Palo Alto and enjoys traveling, being a proud member of AAUW and working out.
