About Ohlone College Campus - Ohlone Renegades Women's Basketball

Ohlone College is located in the GREATER BAY AREA. Just south West of San Francisco, which means there is always something fun to do, a beautiful view to enjoy, and a sunset to take your breath away! Ohlone College, beginning Spring 2008, will open their doors to the New ALL GREEEN Newark Campus.

  • Located in the southeastern part of the Bay Area, in the heart of the Silicon Valley, Ohlone is 13 miles from San Jose, 25 miles from Oakland and 35 miles from San Francisco. (Fremont Campus Map and Directions.)

  • The $10 million Hyman Center for Business and Technology houses over 300 computers complete with programming, multimedia, graphics, Microsoft Office and internet access for the campus community.

  • The Gary Soren Smith Center for the Fine and Performing Arts has a 405-seat theatre, a 200-seat theatre, two television broadcast studios, a radio station, a 600-seat outdoor amphitheater, a dance studio and an art gallery.

  • Ohlone is home to the Gallaudet University Regional Center and has the largest deaf student population in the West.

  • The Ohlone College faculty consists of 134 full-time faculty and approximately 450 adjunct faculty. Full-time faculty are required to have a Master's degree in their field and 18 faculty currently hold Doctorate degrees.

  • Hyman Hall entrance.The Learning Resource Center/Library holds 61,000 book volumes, 200 periodicals in print format, and web-based access through four databases to 1,710 journals and newspapers. The collection also includes 8,000 audiotapes; 2,500 videotapes and 45,000 microforms.

  • The student population is roughly 11,000 students. Approximately 3,400 are full-time.

  • The name "Ohlone" honors the early Ohlone people of the Costanoan tribe who inhabited the Fremont area. Distinguished by peaceful pursuits, they held profound reverence for the earth, believing it was theirs for living and not taking. About Ohlone.

The Ohlone College Newark Campus

The Ohlone College Newark campus will truly be the “College of the Future”! This campus will be the first “green” community college campus in the nation, one that teaches environmental stewardship through responsible, sustainable practices. The Newark campus incorporates LEED Gold Award, U.S. Green Building Council.resource efficient features such as photovoltaic solar panels, geothermal heating and cooling, high-efficiency lighting, low water consumption, and extensive use of recycled materials. These measures help to preserve environmental resources and save hundreds of thousands of dollars in operational costs.

The Ohlone “College of the Future” is designed to accommodate students from a very diverse population, adapting to the learning needs of all students. Students will be taught in classrooms with state-of-the-art equipment and research-based instruction methods to create a powerful student-centered learning environment. Key curriculum taught at the center will include our highly successful biotechnology program, nursing, health sciences, emerging technologies, and environmental studies.

Ohlone College and the community have worked for years to ensure a permanent community college presence in Newark . The Ohlone “College of the Future” will be a “College of Opportunity ” for our diverse student population and for our community.
