Lady Renegades Move On and Advance to the Sweet Sixteen, Baby!

Behind some tenacious and the snoteworthy performances offered by Casceal Swaggard, Christina Dixon, and Whitne’ Blackburn, your Ohlone Women’s Basketball Team soundly defeated the visiting Siskiyous Team. 

Next up is #3 Delta College.  The game is scheduled for Saturday, March 7th, at 5:30 PM at Delta College.  Come out and support your Lady Renegade Team!

East Bay junior colleges playing outstanding playoff basketball - February 27, 2009, Tri-City Voice Sports - Ohlone (19-10, 12-0) who was playing without All-Conference and honorable mention state nominee guard, Cassie Bates, showed up by beating the visiting College of the Siskiyous, 75-65.

Ohlone holds off Siskiyous for playoff win - February 27, 2009, Contra Costa Times - Ohlone College got off to a fast start en route to a 20-point halftime lead before holding off a second-half surge by visiting Siskiyous-Weed to earn a 75-65 win in a Northern California regional junior college women's basketball semifinal at Ohlone on Friday night.

The Lady Renegades Are Perfect In Conference!

Our Women’s Basketball Team finished their season a perfect 12-0 in Coast Conference, concluding conference play with a second straight victory over San Jose City College on Friday (2/20/09) at San Jose.  The Renegades battled twelve games straight and completed the season undefeated! Congratulations, Renegades!  

As a result of their stellar conference performances, many awards were received.

  • All-Coast Conference MVP: #24 Casceal Swaggard
  • All-Coast Conference First Team:  #22 Bradleigh Miller and #5 Cassie Bates
  • All-Coast Conference Honorable Mention:  #10 Christina Dixon, #45 Markielle Styles, and #3 Louise Valdez, Jasmine Rubin
  • Coast Conference: Coach of the Year: Ohlone College Head Coach, Elizabeth Stanley
  • All-State Nominees:
    • Freshman, Cassie Bates - Third Team
    • Sophomore, Bradleigh Miller - Honorable Mention

Community collegiate women wrap up the season - February 25, 2009, Tri-City Voice - Ohlone's season began on a path of rough terrain and opposition. The Renegades top player, Geneya Rodgers, went down with a season-ending knee injury and the team started out 0-5. However, the Lady Renegades showed a lot of character through the adversity and went 12-0 in conference play.

Renegades and Gladiators cruise in week's victories - February 18, 2009, Tri-City Voice - Junior college women's basketball has been fast and furious in the East Bay this season, and Ohlone and Chabot colleges are right in the thick of things. Ohlone (17-10, 10-0), had an amazing two games against Mission and Cabrillo colleges the past week (Feb. 11 and 14, respectively).

Cassie Bates is Honorable Mention for Female Athlete of the Month for January 2009 - February 12, 2009 - California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) - Freshman starting point guard Cassie Bates (Fremont Washington) was recruited last spring, her senior season, as a Shooting Guard. The Renegades coaching staff spent the non-conference schedule molding Bates into the team’s floor leader. She has worked hard at honing the needed skills and learning the nuances of this position. Her diligence is paying off for the team and her own over-all performances. Through January: Bastes led her team to a 6-0 start in conference and currently in first place. Bastes has also been named player of the game twice.

Ohlone women stumble in conference play - February 11, 2009, Tri-City Voice - Ohlone women's basketball (14-10, 8-0) has cruised through the Coast Conference this season. The Lady Renegades have run through the league with a respectable offensive attack and contained some of the leagues top defenses.

Ohlone women struggle at tournament - January 7, 2009, Tri-City Voice - Ohlone College's Lady Renegades basketball team traveled to De Anza College on Sunday, Dec. 28, to take part in the Mike Gervasoni Memorial Classic. It was a disappointing trip, as they came back the following day, having dropped both contests.

Ohlone Renegades basketball tip off the season - November 5, 2008, Tri-City Voice - The weather is cold outside, but the women of Ohlone College look to heat the gym with their basketball prowess this season. Ohlone College is one of the most successful women's college basketball teams in the Bay Area.
