Ohlone women's basketball (14-10, 8-0) has cruised through the Coast Conference this season. The Lady Renegades have run through the league with a respectable offensive attack and contained some of the leagues top defenses.

Since entering the league competition, the Renegades have an impressive undefeated record, beating divisional opponents by nearly 25 points per contest. On Wednesday, Feb. 4, they won decisively against De Anza College.

Ohlone used their quickness and depth to defeat the Dons. De Anza put a great fight, but the Renegades were too strong as Ohlone had four players in double figures (Cassie Bates, 12, Bradleigh Miller, 13, Mo Nay Arterberry-Ray, 10, and Whiney Blackburn, 11).

But, Ohlone had little to celebrate when it faced last years Nor Cal Champ and State Finalist Foothill (22-5) on Friday, Feb. 6.

Ohlone played excellent basketball against Foothill on the road in the first half. The Renegades were only down 39-29 at halftime. However, Ohlone could not contain the high-flying Foothill Owls, and lost the game, 82-59.

Ohlone has played well lately, despite the loss to Foothill. During league competition, Bates, Miller and sophomore Louise Valdez have played phenomenal. Bates, a freshman, is ranked in the top 20 in the state in assists.

"Cassie is known as Miss Consistent," said Ohlone Head Coach Elizabeth Stanley. "She is an all-around player. We would not be able to be were we are at if it were not for Cassie."

Miller and Valdez have each made notable contributions as well. Miller is the teams leading scorer at 13.1 points per game; Valdez has become a defensive stopper.

Valdez will be honored at "Sophomore Night" at home against Mission College on Wednesday, Feb. 11. The game will be at 7 p.m.; the sophomore ceremony will be at 6:30. Other sophomores that will be recognized during the ceremony will be Christina Dixon, Lelo Ramasotoga, Bradleigh Miller and Casceal Swaggard.
