2008-2009 Coaches and Staff - Ohlone College Renegades Women's Basketball
Head Coach Elizabeth Stanley is the wife of Robert Stanley (16 years) and mother of one 12-year-old daughter, Justice Danielle Stanley. Coach Stanley earned a Bachelor of Art from St. Mary’s College. Coach Stanley also earned her Bachelor of Science in Physical Education and a California teaching credential from CSU Hayward. In addition, she graduated with a Master's Degree in Sports Psychology from Capella University. Since July 2004, Coach Stanley has been working to earn her Ph.D. in psychology through Capella University.
This is Coach Stanley’s sixth year as the head Women's Basketball coach at Ohlone College, Fremont, and fifth straight year leading the team to the play-offs. She was hand picked by administration to turn this program around. Under Stanley’s guidance, last year's squad finished first in conference. This big jump up was from the last place finishing team, which Coach Stanley inherited. Ohlone Women’s Basketball is enjoying upward strides towards elite status under our coach’s guidance. The winning environment is palpable!
Prior to joining the Ohlone College faculty, Coach Stanley had over eleven years of head coaching experience. During her 8 years at Amador Valley High School in Pleasanton, CA, she led her team to a 200-49 win-loss record. Coach Stanley guided her team to five Division II North Coast section titles and five North State finals. As if that is not enough, Coach Stanley’s teams brought home three North State titles and three State second place finishes.
Our coach was chosen 1999 coach of the year (ANG and Time News), 2000 California Coaches Association's coach of the year and 2001 NFHS California coach of the year. Coach Stanley was also selected as the first recipient of the Tri-Valley Herald's first ever coach of the year award. The possible nominees were from all male and female sports. This decorated coach brings quite a winning tradition to Ohlone College.
Coach Edward Harris enters his fourth year as Ohlone's leading defensive strategist. Coach Harris is an energetic and enthusiastic coach. His demeanor is contagious and always proves motivational for team members. Coach Harris demands complete effort on defense and the players work efficiently and ambitiously to meet his high standard of excellence.
Coach Harris acquired his ambition to coach through his lifetime involvement in sports. Harris was a stand out football player at Fremont High School in Oakland, as well as at King's River College. Coach Harris developed his strict discipline through his time served in the United States Navy from 1985-1991. The ex-sailor now runs a tight ship for the players he serves. Coach Harris has been honing his coaching savvy since 1991 when he began his respected coaching career.
Coach Harris is the very proud father of 15-year-old son, Edward Harris, Jr.; 15-year-old daughter, Tiffany Harris; and 8-year-old daughter Valencia Harris. When Coach Harris is drive towards success.
Bob and Tina, fortunately, are a packaged deal. They work together to keep peace and order in the family. They were brought on to help with personnel development and recruiting. These two coaches have a great knack for honing in on each player’s individual needs. They have been instrumental in developing strong bonds with each player, which inevitably allows the staff to better facilitate each player’s development on and off the court. Bob and Tina are well-respected coaches throughout the Bay Area. The respect has been earned through their commitment to each athlete whom they serve. They both know the game very well and, more over, how to share their knowledge with others. Ohlone is extremely lucky to have these great people/coaches on staff.
This young and energetic coach comes to Ohlone with great college playing experience. She played at San Jose City College and Southern Utah University. At both colleges Julia was a contributor and team leader. Her knowledge of the game exceeds her youth as a coach. She had brought many new ideas and insights to the team. Julia is in charge of many offensive strategies and player recruiting and development. Her contributions to the team have already begun to have a positive impact on the team’s expected success.
Jessica played along side of Julia at both San Jose City and Utah. They have shared energy and passion for the game. Although a GREAT long distance shooter, Jess has always been known throughout the leagues as a tough-minded defender. She is, with Coach Ed, in charge of getting the players up to her level defensively. Her knowledge of the game and her competitive spirit will prove instrumental to the team’s play-off run.
Ericka is in charge of developing the post players as well assisting in the strength and conditioning for the entire team. As a player Ericka was strong and tenacious. She is being asked to demand this from the players in the weight room and the post players on the court. Her knowledge of the inside game and the amount of hard work this position demands will ensure that the post players are ready for all opponents.
Jesse is THE team’s number one strength and conditioning coach. This is Jesse’s only job. He is focused on ensuring that players are strong enough and healthy enough to compete and strive for a peak performance. His importance to the team can not be understated.
