The Renegades of Ohlone College swept the Coast Conference finishing a perfect 12-0. A lineup consisting of 5 sophomores and 6 freshmen jam-packed with speed and determination they would ensure this years Ohlone women’s basketball team was not going to go unnoticed, and this was proven through the entirety of the regular season.
This year’s team was remarkably balanced. Leading the Renegades was Sophomore Captain, forward Casceal Swaggard, who was the only player averaging double digits through conference play with the team averaging more than 75 points per game.
Ohlone went deep in their bench game in and game out, easily wearing down their opponents with constant defensive pressure averaging them almost 20 steals per game, putting them amongst the state leaders in this category and ensuring a their well executed fast break offense gave them an advantage.
The 2008-2009 Renegades gave Ohlone Women’s Basketball it’s most successful season to date. They were the first team in the program’s history to go undefeated, and more impressively the first to win a playoff game when they beat the Eagles of Siskiyous to reach the Sweet 16, before falling to the Delta Mustangs 1 game short of a trip to the State Championship in Fresno.
