“I am very excited for Markiell, this is a huge opportunity for her and says a lot about our program.  She is a great kid and I am sure she will do very well. UNLV is lucky to get such a great all around student-athlete.”  Head Coach Julia Allender says.

Markiell averaged 8 pts and 6 rebounds for the renegades last year who went undefeated in conference play and into the sweet 16 of the state playoffs.Markiell had this to say about her Ohlone experience and her future endeavors:

“I made the decision to go to a Junior College because I felt there were better opportunities out there than what I was being offered.  I chose Ohlone because of the reviews it received.  A lot of people said it was a very good academic school that has good sports teams.  Even though I had trouble adapting, going to Ohlone proved to be the best decision I’ve ever made for my basketball career.  It has really prepared me for the next level, even in the classroom.  It forced to me to mature and learn how to manage my time, a skill I did not have coming out of high school.  Ohlone was a stepping stone that I needed in order for me to feel like I can be successful at the Division I level both on and off the court. I am very much excited to finally have my dream as a reality.  I know at the Division 1 level, it takes a lot of heart, dedication, and hard work.  I feel I have put in enough to get me to this point, but in order for me to be successful I must take all those aspects to a level I’ve never been to before.”
