The Lady Renegades, on the other hand, were not able to pull off the comeback victory, falling 2-1 against defending state champion Sacramento City College in their opener in the second part of Tuesday's Men's/Women's soccer doubleheader.
"This is a work in progress, and I am very pleased with our first game," said Ohlone Head Coach Larry Heslin. Heslin is trying to recapture the magic that his team had last year when they made the playoffs for the first time since 2006.
Ohlone and Sac City were stuck in a midfield battle for the first 20 minutes, trading the occasional shot for shot, until the Lady Panthers broke through past the Ohlone backline, taking advantage of the Lady Renegade's bad positioning, and knocking the ball past Ohlone goalkeeper Shelby Tomasello to strike first, 1-0. Sac City would score 10 minutes later to go up 2-0 before the half off a header past Tomasello.
The Lady Renegades prevented the shutout as freshman Reanna Williams scored for Ohlone, cutting Sac City's lead to 2-1, however the comeback would fall short for the Lady Renegades who start the 2009 season at 0-1-0.
