Trustee Kevin Bristow Biography - Board of Trustees for the Ohlone Community College District

Kevin Bristow was elected to the Ohlone College Board on November 6, 2012.  He has been an advocate for students in higher education for the past 20 years.  In that time, he has served in numerous advisory and training roles in the areas of child welfare, foster youth, higher education, and public policy.

Kevin is the Director of the Renaissance Scholars Program at Cal State East Bay in Hayward.  Renaissance Scholars provides a variety of support services for students who are former foster youth.  This includes priority registration and housing, loaner textbooks and laptops, and academic-life counseling.

Previously, Kevin worked as an Education Specialist for Contra Costa County Children and Family Services, where he assisted foster youth in achieving their educational goals.  In that role, he conducted workshops on life skills, higher education, financial aid, and scholarships.  He also served as a liaison to various social service agencies as well as several colleges and universities.

Kevin is also a long-time member of California Youth Connection, a legislative advocacy group for foster youth.  Since 1989 CYC has been the driving force behind the majority of California legislation affecting foster youth.

Kevin received his B.A. in Psychology and a minor in Human Resources Management from California State University, Chico and his Masters in Public Administration from California State University, East Bay.
