Jimmy Corrigan: The Smartest Kid on Earth by Chris Ware - Spring 2008, Ohlone College Book Club

Cover: Jimmy Corrigan. In the opinion of two Ohlone College librarians who wish to remain anonymous, Chris Ware is the single most talented artist working in comics today. That is why two anonymous librarians have chosen Chris Ware's graphic novel, Jimmy Corrigan: The Smartest Kid on Earth as our spring reading companion.

Published in 2000, eight years ago, Jimmy Corrigan: The Smartest Kid on Earth is not a particularly cheerful story. The Corrigans make the family in Jonathan Franzen's The Corrections seem likable. Still, Dave Eggers said Chris Ware's drawings are "achingly lyrical", so if you are going to ache anyway, you might as well have pictures by which to ache. At least come to the Library and look at the swell display in Display Case #3.

Copies of the book are for sale in the Library at the Information Desk. $14. No checks. No returns.
