Fremont—The Ohlone College Foundation is honoring Gloria Villasana Fuerniss, vice president of corporate banking at Fremont Bank, for her work on behalf of the school and the Tri-City area community.
The college foundation has named Fuerniss the 2007 Citizen of the Year, and will honor her at a luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 9 at the Fremont Marriott, 46100 Landing Parkway.
Tickets are $80. Proceeds will be donated to Ohlone College scholarships and grants, as well as Ohlone departments and programs.
Fuerniss was chosen because "she exemplifies the importance of forging partnerships between businesses and community organizations and continues to share her expertise to improve the quality of life in her community," according to a statement prepared by the foundation.
Fuerniss, an alumna of Ohlone College, has served on the foundation board since 1976 and was a trustee on the college board for 17 years beginning in 1980. She was named trustee emeritus in 1997.
Her volunteer service has included fundraising events for St. Rose Hospital in Hayward, Moreau Catholic High School in Hayward, the Boy Scouts of America and Washington Hospital in Fremont. She also is an active participant of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Alameda County.
