  • Ohlone Students Get Ready to Graduate; Ohlone Community College holds its 44th annual graduation ceremony on Friday - May 17, 2011, NewarkPatch - Tassels will be turned and caps thrown Friday as graduates of Ohlone Community College celebrate a milestone in their post-secondary education. The college will hold its 44th Graduation Ceremony at the Epler Gymnasium on the Fremont campus at 7 p.m. Friday. Doors open at 6 p.m.
  • Ohlone appoints trustee to represent Newark - May 13, 2011, Inside Bay Area - Ohlone College trustees opted for experience and a familiar face, selecting Vivien Larsen to fill Newark's vacant board seat through the 2012 election.
  • Ohlone Chooses Former School Administrator as New Trustee - May 12, 2011, NewarkPatch - Even after retirement, Vivien Larsen can't get away from education. The former Newark Unified School District vice principal and counselor is now Ohlone Community College's newest board member.

  • Ohlone to appoint replacement for trustee - April 15, 2011, Inside Bay Area - The Ohlone College board will appoint a trustee to replace Bill McMillin, who died last month after a more than two-year battle with leukemia. Applications will be accepted through 4 p.m. April 29, and finalists will be notified May 3.
  • Ohlone and Chabot cut back on summer classes - April 15, 2011, Inside Bay Area - Ohlone and Chabot colleges are cutting back on summer classes in anticipation of another round of state budget cuts. Ohlone will reduce summer offerings by about 50 percent, while Chabot is instituting a 41 percent reduction.
  • Suicide prevention walk to be held at Ohlone College - April 12, 2011, Tri-City Voice - Every 16 minutes, someone in the US dies from suicide, the nation's 11th leading cause of death. Yet, according to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, over 90 percent of all people who commit suicide, suffer from a diagnosable and treatable psychiatric illness. So, in an effort to bring this once "taboo" subject out of the shadows, Ohlone College together with the Northern California Chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), is hosting "Out-of-the-Darkness Campus Walk.
  • IT Innovation Leadership Award presented to Bay Area partnership, March 29, 2011 - WhyITNow.org Blog - Representatives from Irvington High School Information Technology Academy, Ohlone Community College and Cisco were honored for leadership and innovation in Information Technology (IT) in California by the non-profit association for Web professionals and its WhyITNow.org initiative to promote jobs, innovation and productivity in California.
  • School Leaders, Elected Officials Remember Ohlone Trustee Bill McMillin - March 15, 2011, NewarkPatch - Colleagues and elected officials say Ohlone Trustee William McMillin was passionate about education and a tireless advocate for Newark students and schools. Ohlone College's Newark Center will hold a memorial service Thursday night for McMillin, who lost his fight with cancer on March 11.
  • Ohlone College board member dies - March 13, 2011, Inside Bay Area - William McMillin, a longtime trustee with the Ohlone Community College Board, died Saturday after battling a severe form of leukemia for more than two years. He was 68.
