- Ohlone ahead of its class in solar energy: Campus will generate 30 percent of its power needs - Inside Bay Area: The Argus, July 29, 2006 - As California struggles with the barrage of record temperatures and energy demand, Ohlone College officials are boasting about their solar-powered Newark campus.
- Ohlone trustee concludes 20-year stint - Inside Bay Area: The Argus, July 22, 2006 - Ruthe Foster will not seek re-election to the Ohlone College board, ending a 20-year stretch as a trustee and a lifelong involvement in education.
- State lowers community college fees - Inside Bay Area: The Argus, July 3, 2006 - The state budget gives community college students something to look forward to next year — lower fees. The budget the governor signed Friday will lower community college fees from $26 to $20 per unit. The decrease takes effect in the spring semester, which typically begins in January. The savings add up: Full-time students taking 15 units per semester will see their annual fees drop from $780 to $600.

- Ohlone trustee to join troops in Iraq: Yee still plans to seek another four years on college board - Inside Bay Area: The Argus, July 3, 2006 - Ohlone College trustee Garrett Yee was looking forward to spending more time with his wife and children after returning in April from Fort Bliss, Texas, where he was stationed as a lieutenant colonel in the Army Reserve. He already had missed his daughter's birthday, Thanksgiving and New Year's.

Thousands of immigrants from Afghanistan came after the Soviet invasion there in 1979, and thousands more are from Gujarat, India, which suffered a devastating earthquake in 2001. Fremont also has large numbers of Mexican, Japanese and Chinese.
- Door opens for careers in biotech: Newark Memorial, Ohlone program aims especially for minorities - Inside Bay Area: The Argus, June 18, 2006 - In August, 62 high school sophomores will start on the path to a biotechnology certificate from Ohlone College if the plan — structured like a college preparatory program — goes as designed, said Michelle Mensinger, coordinator of the Biotech Academy at Newark Memorial.
