Grand Opening! Evelyn Henderson Deaf Studies Lab

Fremont, CA—A state-of-the-art computer lab and classroom for Deaf Studies Division at Ohlone College officially opens its doors on Monday, September 20. Ohlone College has one of the largest populations of Deaf students outside of Gallaudet University, with almost 200 Deaf students plus an additional 600 ASL learners. Through a generous donation from the East Bay Community Foundation, Ohlone was able to equip a large lab and classroom with 42 computer stations, including the latest in educational graphics software and technology.

Over 100 attendees are expected, including representatives from Deaf organizations, the California School for the Deaf, as well as students, faculty and staff from the College. In addition to the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony, there will tours and demonstrations of the equipment. There will also be opportunities to interview the dean, faculty and students and to learn more about Ohlone College’s Deaf Studies program.

The ceremony begins with a ribbon cutting in the main campus Quad in front of building 6 at 10:30 a.m. with a tour and demonstrations in the new Deaf Studies Lab following beginning at 11:00 a.m.
