Trustees Approve Construction on Ohlone College Solar Panel Project
Fremont, CA—Last Wednesday, March 14th, at the Ohlone College Board Meeting, the Trustees voted to approve construction of the first major project for the Measure G bond. The Bond passed in November 2010, providing $349 million dollars to upgrade aging facilities at the Fremont campus and some additional upgrades to the Newark campus.
The project will build a 1 megawatt solar farm on the Fremont campus. It will allow the college to take advantage of the energy savings from moveable PV panels. It will be constructed on approximately five acres of property on the south side of campus where the former soccer field stands.
The photovoltaic field will consist of an array of crystalline solar panels or modules that are fitted with tracking systems and motors allowing them to rotate during daylight hours to maximize energy production.
Just in time for new construction to begin on the Ohlone College Fremont campus, Ohlone is pleased to welcome a new Director of Facilities, Thomas Moore. Moore, recently of UC San Diego, brings years of facilities management and construction experience to the college and to the major projects that will be funded by Measure G.
