Ohlone College 39th Annual Commencement Ceremony
Fremont, CA—Ohlone College congratulates the 486 graduates from the 2005-2006 academic year in the 39th Annual Commencement Ceremony on Thursday, May 25 at 7 p.m. This year’s speakers include valedictorian Ayesha Moghul and honored alum, Brad Mangin, a freelance sports photographer based in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Moghul, 20, is receiving her A.S. in Biology from Ohlone and transferring to UC Berkeley as a molecular cellular biology major in Fall 2006. She has a 4.0 GPA and served as an ASOC (Associated Students of Ohlone College) senator for the Spring 2006 semester. She was also a member of AGS (Alpha Gamma Sigma), the Ohlone chapter of a scholastic honor society in the community college system for 2 semesters. Moghul worked as a biotechnology lab assistant and a biology tutor while attending her Ohlone classes. She is also contributing to a book on mechanisms in organic chemistry being written by biology/biotechnology instructor Dr. Jim Baxter. Moghul’s future goals include medical school because of her great interest in giving service to the underprivileged.
Mangin is a 1986 graduate of Ohlone College and a 1988 graduate of San Jose State University (BA, Photojournalism). His photographs have appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated, seven times, including the May 15, 2006 edition of S.I. (See http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/magazine/cover/). Mangin’s photos have also been featured many times inside Sports Illustrated and in the San Ramon Valley Times, Contra Costa Times, The National Sports Daily, and the Argus and covered sporting events including several Super Bowls, Worlds Series, NBA Finals and the 1996 Olympic Games. Mangin has been a strong mentor to many students pursuing their education or professional careers in photojournalism.
Graduation is held in the Epler Gymnasium (Building Nine) on the Pine Street entrance at the south end of the college. Parking for graduation is available from either entrance to the campus. The Associated Students of Ohlone College (ASOC) will sponsor a reception immediately after graduation for the graduates and their families. The attached document contains comparative data about the graduating class.
