"Topping Out" Ceremony

  • Ohlone College Newark Center
  • Thursday, August 17, 12 noon

Fremont, CA—The final steel beam at the Ohlone College Newark Center for Health Sciences and Technology was lowered into place this week, signaling the end of one phase of construction, the erection of the steel frame and the beginning of another. This is a landmark event for the construction team and the College. The final beam was painted white and everyone was invited to sign the beam before it is put into position.

Attendees were able to walk through part of the building since construction was halted during the event, and climb up the observation tower to the roof level. From the roof of the building it is possible to look across the valley at the bottom of the northern slope of Mission Peak and see the Ohlone campus in Fremont.

Turner Construction sponsored a BBQ immediately following. A few Ohlone officials were invited to attend this important milestone. Read the story behind the tradition of “Topping Out” ceremonies.
