Ohlone College Appoints New Coordinator of Sustainability
Fremont, CA—The appointment of a Sustainability Coordinator, a new position at Ohlone College, was announced this week by College president Dr. Doug Treadway who will lead implementation of the college’s policy on Environmental Sustainability. Professor George Rodgers has accepted the assignment to promote innovative environmental projects, leading a highly committed team of colleagues on a Sustainability Task Force.
The Task Force will engage the entire college community in reducing waste, recycling, energy and water conservation, reducing materials and supplies consumption, alternative energy systems, campus beautification and cleanliness, volunteer and service learning projects, grants support, measurement and reporting of sustainability data and other activities that will arise from a district-wide sustainability plan.
In August 2006 Dr. Doug Treadway, President of Ohlone College, delivered a speech to the college and community that reiterated the importance of Ohlone’s commitment to incorporating sustainability practices into all aspects of college operations and education. As the educators of our future workforce, political leaders and decision-makers, institutions of higher education that choose to exercise and teach advanced practices in the use and conservation of energy and natural resources have the ability to make a tremendous impact on the future.
