Gloria Fuerniss Honored as 2007 Citizen of the Year By Ohlone College Foundation

Fremont, CA—Please join the Ohlone College Foundation in honoring Gloria Villasana Fuerniss, Vice-President of Corporate Banking at Fremont Bank, as the 2007 Citizen of the Year. Ms. Fuerniss, an alumna of Ohlone College, has been a long time advocate for community college education, serving as a Trustee on the Ohlone College Board from 1980 to 1997, when she retired as a trustee emeritus after 17 years of service, and on the Ohlone College Foundation board since 1976. Senator Liz Figueroa for District 10 named Ms. Fuerniss Woman of the Year in 2005, for her dedication to the community through her volunteer service and her professional life. She exemplifies the importance of forging partnerships between businesses and community organizations and continues to share her expertise to improve the quality of life in her community. Her volunteer service has included fundraising events for St. Rose Hospital, Moreau High School, Boy Scouts of America, and Washington Hospital and she is an active participant in the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Alameda County.

This year’s Nineteenth Annual Citizen of the Year Benefit Luncheon celebrates and honors an outstanding community leader for her dedication and service to the Tri-cities. The luncheon highlights the important role the College plays in the region. It is the leading fundraising event by the Ohlone College Foundation and provides funds for scholarships, grants, and college departments and programs. This event provides an opportunity for individuals or organizations to assist the college with the educational needs of the community.
