Fremont, CA—Get ready to be thrilled by the music, drums, dancing and theatrics of the dynamic Diamano Coura! Diamano Coura (“those who bring the message” in Senegalese) showcase their authentic recreations of West African village dances. The company includes dancers, actors, singers, acrobats, musicians, stilt walkers, and visual artists from Mali, Senegal, Guinea, the Ivory Coast, Liberia, Gambia, and the United States!
Diamano Coura began their ritualistic performances over 30 years ago; this year they will perform at the Ohlone College Smith Center to display their exceptional talent for art and outreach. The company prides itself for reaching over 500 youths from around the Bay Area through their Junior Program and Arts-In-Education Program. Though heavily involved in artistically educating the young community, the non-profit organization has also reached out to people of all ages and cultures through their international performances in the United States, Canada, and Europe. Diamano Coura has regularly toured at Epcot Disney World in Florida and the Olympic Cultural Festival.
The artists continue to strive to convey West African music and dance as a means by which to educate, learn, communicate, organize, and preserve the historical treasure of their culture.
