For Immediate Release:

Let Sweet Charity Jumpstart Your Summer with a Lot of Sizzle

Fremont, CA—Sweet Charity is a tender, poignant and consistently funny look at the adventures of a dance hall hostess who always gives her heart and her dreams to the wrong man. Ohlone college Summerfest presents Neil Simon’s crazy, colorful, shagadelic look at the groovy 1960’s as seen through the sparkling eyes of Charity Hope Valentine. The musical includes knockout numbers like the sultry “Hey Big Spender”, the top hat zing of “If My Friends Could See me Now”…, the carnival-like "I'm A Brass Band", the plaintive "Where Am I Going", and the Ode to the Age of Aquarius "Rhythm of Life".

Anethra Moura plays Charity with the sparkle of a pro. Recently returning from a stint as an actress and dancer in New York, Moura is delighted to jump into the role originated by her idol, Gwen Verdon. The story follows Charity through her numerous adventures with different boyfriends, losers and potential lovers.

Producer Chris Booras promises a delightful pre-show dinner for an additional $10 in the style of a New York street carnival, with a cornucopia of food vendors, 60's rock band and a karaoke stage for the brave of heart. Special treats are in store for those who dress in 60's threads.

So get your Flower Power on, break out your bell bottoms, throw on some beads, and be sure to wear some flowers in your hair. SWEET CHARITY will blow your mind!
