Ohlone College 43rd Annual Graduation Ceremony
Fremont, CA—This year Ohlone College holds its 43rd Graduation Ceremony honoring students for their achievement at Ohlone College, including Spring Valedictorian Jeffery A. Cavallaro and Outstanding Alumni Mr. Usua Henry Amanem.
At the close of the spring semester at Ohlone College, Jeffery A. Cavallaro, Ohlone College Spring Valedictorian, will have earned three associates degrees in science in the areas of Computer Science, Math, and Physics. Jeffery worked full-time while taking as many as 15 units per semester. He has the highest number of units, 163.5, of the students graduating with a 4.0 GPA. The father of three plans to transfer to either Santa Clara University or San Jose State to complete a bachelors degree in computer science.
Ohlone is also proud to honor the Outstanding Alumni Mr. Usua Henry Amanem, who immigrated to the United States in 1972. He obtained an Associate Degree in Arts from Ohlone College under the auspices of a scholarship program from the Youth for Understanding Exchange Program, a bachelor’s degree in Biological Science from CSU Hayward, and a master’s degree in Public Health from San Jose State. After brief employment with the U.S. Federal Department of Health Mr. Amanem established the Amtrat International Corporation, a very successful business, currently operating out of Union City, which exports liquidation and distressed footwear merchandise from major retailers and department stores in the United States to over thirty countries. Mr. Amanem is also the Chairman of the Board of Amakpe International Refineries (Nigeria) Ltd., the first privately owned crude oil refinery in Africa. He is also involved in various philanthropic organizations. He is a widower with three children, Dr. Idoroenyi and two in college, Ekeeti who currently attends Santa Clara University and Usua Jr., who attends Stanford University.
Ohlone College anticipates awarding 120 Associate of Science degrees, and 519 Associate of Arts degrees to 643 graduates at the graduation ceremony. Of those, 415 females and 224 males, with the youngest graduate sixteen years old, and eight graduates who are fifty or over. Of these students over 294 are from Fremont, 58 call Newark home, and over 287 are from other parts of the bay area or taking online classes from out of state, including Arkansas, North Carolina, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
The graduation ceremony will take place in the Ohlone College Epler Gymnasium on the Pine Street entrance off of Mission Boulevard. Doors open at 6pm. Guests are strongly encouraged to arrive early as seating is limited and is on a first come, first-served basis. No tickets are required. When seating is at capacity, guests will be directed to the overflow room and will be able to watch the ceremony on television monitors. Congratulations to all the graduates!
