San Francisco Opera’s Don Giovanni at Ohlone College

Two men on stage during the opera Don Giovanni.Fremont, CA—Mozart’s Don Giovanni, with all his charm and menace, comes to life as part of Ohlone’s Opera and the Silver Screen summer series. Giovanni features the extraordinary Polish baritone Mariusz Kwiecien in the title role. The high definition film version of the acclaimed San Francisco Opera production will be shown at 8:15 pm, Friday, July 16, inside the Smith Center at Ohlone College. Fremont Opera Music Director David Sloss will give a pre-performance lecture starting at 7:45 p.m. included in the ticket price.

Wine and cheese service will be available beginning at 7:30 pm for an additional charge. Proceeds benefit Ohlone College student performances through the Ohlone College Foundation.

Carefully balancing brilliant comedy with large amounts of seduction, love, and ultimate tragedy, Don Giovanni is often referred to as the greatest opera ever composed. Mariusz Kwiecien “commands attention whenever he’s onstage. His lustrous, virile tone and rugged, wide-eyed good looks provide immediate appeal”. (San Francisco Chronicle).

Donald Runnicles conducts the San Francisco Opera Orchestra and Chorus. Sung in Italian with English subtitles, the running time is three hours and five minutes with one intermission, including a behind-the-scenes interview.

Tickets are available online at, by phone through the box office at 510-659-6031, or in person at the Smith Center Box Office, 43600 Mission Boulevard, Fremont. Box office hours are Tuesday-Thursday 12-7 pm and Friday-Saturday 12-5 pm and one hour before each performance.
