Ohlone College Benefit Show to Fund Performance for Best Original Play Title

Scene from Time Machine: Love Among the Eloi.Fremont, CA—Edward Mast’s The Time Machine: Love Among the Eloi, premiered at Ohlone College in November under the direction of Tom Blank to sold out audiences. This darkly comic sci-fi classic has been invited to perform at the Kennedy Center’s American College Theater Festival (ACTF) western regional conference. ACTF Regionals will take place at CSU Humboldt February 14-18, 2011. During the weeklong event the judging panel selects the best production for our region to perform at nationals on all-expense paid trip to Washington, D.C. in April 2011.

Time Machine is one of four plays chosen to represent the colleges and universities in Region VII, drawing from the nine western states. In addition to the honor of performing at regionals, the production won awards for distinguished casts, as well as awards for sound design, stage management, and a meritorious achievement award for the student–designed “time machine.” In addition, three actors, Patrick Hilt, Bobby August, and April Labson, were chosen to compete in the Irene Ryan Acting Competition. In addition, the play is under consideration for the prestigious Mark David Cohen Award for original play. Ohlone College is presenting a one-night-only encore performance of the award winning production The Time Machine: Love Among the Eloi, on Friday February 11 at 8pm.

Proceeds from the Friday, February 11 fundraising benefit performance, in the Smith Center at Ohlone College, will be used to help cover the costs for transporting the set, costumes, cast and crew to the ACTF conference, where the cast and crew will also be challenged by workshops, classes, auditions and University and professional recruiting.

Immerse yourself in an intimate journey in the dystopian world of the Eloi; witness an award winning, acrobatic cast performing in a state-of-the-art designed set, and help the Ohlone College Theatre Department send their cast to the ACTF Conference. This is the last chance to catch the ‘gats’ and ‘furlies’ of Eloi in this encore fundraiser performance of the highly acclaimed production. For tickets and information, please visit the Smith Center website or call (510) 659-6031.
