Fremont, CA—Ohlone College proudly hosts its 44th Annual Graduation Ceremony honoring students for their commitment to hard work and achievement at Ohlone College. The 2011 Valedictorian is Angeline Joyce Chew and the Outstanding Alumni of the Year are Bill Harrison and Jennifer Toy Harrison.

Angeline Chew is an international student and mother of three. Angeline left her management career in merchandising in Singapore to pursue higher education at Ohlone College. She comes to the podium with 96.5 units of college level course work and a perfect 4.0 grade point average. Angeline will earn an Associate of Arts degree in social science from Ohlone and is planning to transfer to pursue a bachelor’s degree. She has not decided on where she will continue her studies.

Ohlone is also proud to honor the Outstanding Alumni of the Year, Jennifer Toy Harrison and Bill Harrison. The duo met at Ohlone College 22 years ago and their passion for and dedication to public service has made Ohlone gleam with pride. As students at Ohlone College, Bill and Jennifer were both heavily involved as Student Senators for the Associated Students of Ohlone College (ASOC). After attending Ohlone, Bill transferred to University of California at Santa Barbara (UCSB) to complete his Bachelor of Arts in Business Economics with a concentration in Accounting. Jennifer also transferred to UCSB, double majoring in Environmental Studies and Geography. The couple moved back to Fremont after college and dedicated themselves to community service. Bill served as the President and Treasurer of the Board of Directors of Kidango and Children’s Fund of the Bay Area, and he is also part owner of Harrison Accounting Group, Inc. In 2004, Jennifer was named Woman of the Year from the 10th Senate District by Senator Liz Figueroa for her commitment to the community. Jennifer and Bill are both heavily involved with numerous civic organizations. They are the proud parents of two boys, Bryce, age 8 and Hayden, age 6.

Ohlone College anticipates awarding 100 Associate of Science degrees and 480 Associate of Arts degrees, including 72 multiple degrees to the 487 outstanding graduates at the ceremony. Of those, 176 are males and 311 females, with the youngest graduate 18 years old, and 10 graduates over the age of 50. 241 of the graduates this year are Fremont residents, 49 from Newark, and the remaining 197 are from other parts of the bay area or taking online classes from out of state, as far as Wyoming, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Illinois.

The graduation ceremony will take place in the Ohlone College Epler Gymnasium on the Pine Street entrance off of Mission Boulevard. Doors open at 6pm, and guests are strongly encouraged to arrive early as seating is limited and is on a first come, first-served basis. No tickets are required. When seating is at capacity, guests will be directed to the overflow room and will be able to watch the ceremony on television monitors. Congratulations to the Graduates!
