Ohlone College Continues to Raise Awareness about Suicide Prevention with Second Annual Campus Walk
Fremont, CA—Depression is one of the leading causes of suicide today, and has taken the lives of many. To raise awareness about depression and suicide prevention Ohlone College, in partnership with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, will hold the Second Annual Out of the Darkness Campus Walk at Ohlone College in Fremont.
Last year, the event was held in memory of Stewart Dawson, a well known and respected Ohlone staff member. More than 150 faculty, staff, students and community members attended the walk and raised $2500, surpassing the initial fundraising goal of $1,000. This year, Stewart Dawson's mother, his sister, and one-year-old nephew will join the walk this year as "Team Stewie," and welcome anyone to join their team.
With an overwhelming outcome and support from the community last year, Ohlone College hopes to make this year's event even more successful. There is no cost to participate in the walk, but the goal is to collectively raise $3,000 for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. Each registrant will be provided with their own webpage to help with fundraising efforts and tracking progress. All are welcome to participate in the walk, volunteer, or donate to the cause through the event website.
This event is sponsored by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, the Ohlone College Student Health Center, and the ASOC (Associated Students of Ohlone College). For more information about registering or donating, please contact Sally Bratton at email@example.com or visit the event website at www.ohlone.edu/go/campuswalk.
