Ohlone College President Issues Statement of Sympathy to Umpqua Community College - District News Release, Public Information Office, College Advancement
Fremont, CA—Ohlone College President, Dr. Gari Browning issued the following statement regarding the tragic shooting at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon.
“Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to the victims and their families and to the community of Roseburg in the wake of this tragedy.
“At Ohlone College, we give highest priority to the safety and security of our students, faculty and staff. Ohlone is continually in close communication with local authorities and engages in emergency and disaster preparedness on an ongoing basis. Some of the most recent activities include the local police force conducting a training activity for an ‘active shooter’ scenario on our Fremont campus, administrators participating in a tabletop exercise to walk through a response to this type of incident, and regular reviews of our emergency procedures by the college’s emergency resource team.
“Ohlone Community College District uses an emergency mass notification system to provide the Ohlone community and other subscribers with timely advisements of emergencies which occur on either campus, distributed simultaneously through multiple communication formats. The college has a team of trained professionals that includes sworn police officers and other members of our safety and security team who are here to safeguard the District.
“Again, our hearts are with our colleagues at Umpqua College and the entire community as they cope with this tragedy.”Ohlone College is a California Community College located in Fremont and Newark.
