$5 Sing-Along Movies Under the Stars at Ohlone College - Press Release, Office of College Advancement
Fremont, CA—Summer movie musicals under the stars at the Smith Center amphitheatre at Ohlone College have become a tradition. Families and friends love to gather in this beautiful hillside setting which overlooks the Bay Area to enjoy favorite musicals of the past, singing along with the words projected on the screen. This year, Summerfest 2016 presents three musicals on three Friday nights during July and August.
The Sound of Music, showing Friday, July 29 at 8:30 pm, is a timeless family musical featuring the magnificent voice of Julie Andrews. The Sound of Music is more than a love story or a family adventure. It represents hope and courage in standing up for your values in a perilous situation, set during the Nazi occupation of Austria just prior to World War II. The Sound of Music is rated G.
Rocky Horror Picture Show is on Friday, August 12 at 8:30 pm. Rocky Horror is a cult classic, where singing and acting along with the film are part of the entertainment. To get everyone warmed up, “Full Bawdy Caste” will be on hand to enhance the on-screen fun. You can buy a box of inexpensive props on site to get you in the mood! Rocky Horror Picture Show is rated R.
Moulin Rouge is our final summer movie, showing Friday, August 19 at 8:30pm. Moulin Rouge is a musical drama with splashes of comic relief that lighten the intense story of love and conflict, lavishly directed by Baz Lurhman. Offbeat and unusual, the film features modern music, sung admirably by Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor. The film is set in 1899, where a young writer has come to Paris to follow the Bohemian revolution taking hold of the city. Nowhere is the thrill of the underworld more alive than at the nightclub the Moulin Rouge, where a tale of love, greed and jealousy begins to unfold! Moulin Rouge is rated PG-13.
