Procedure for Requesting Unit Overloads - Counseling Department
Student Responsibilities
Students must:
- Review overload guidelines
- Complete petition form requesting an overload
- Meet with a counselor
Definition of Unit Overload
- Unit Overload
- More than 17.5 units in either fall or spring semester or more than 8.5 units in a summer session.
Overload Guidelines
- Any student who does not have at least a 2.6 cumulative GPA in college cannot petition for 18 or more units
- Students who have a 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA are eligible to petition for 18.5 units
- Students who have a 3.2 or higher cumulative GPA are eligible to petition for 19-21.5 units
- Students who have a 3.4 or higher cumulative GPA are eligible to petition for 22 or more units
- Withdrawals ("W's") will also be considered when determining if an overload should be granted, especially if those "W's" are in a semester(s) in which an overload has been granted
