High School Visits
Every year, Ohlone representatives visit local high schools to provide students with information about Ohlone’s programs, services, financial aid options, and registration process. Below is a list of upcoming high school workshops. Please check with the high school’s Career Center to find out the workshop location.
- Kennedy High School, Thursday, March 6 1:30pm
- Mission San Jose, Tuesday, March 11 2:45pm
- Washington High School Wednesday, March 12 10:00am
- Newark Memorial, Thursday, March 13 9:30am
- American High School, Monday, March 17 10:00am
- Conley Caraballo, Monday, March 17 12:00pm
Attending a workshop at your high school is a great way to have your questions answered and to learn more about the college. Another great way to learn about Ohlone is to take a campus tour. Peer Mentors lead the tours and can provide you with a student’s perspective of Ohlone. Visit the Peer Mentors website for details regarding campus tours.
Early Registration Process for High School Seniors
Many seniors feel overwhelmed by the college admissions process, which is why Ohlone has created an easy plan for seniors to follow. The Senior Checklist (PDF)
(view with the free Adobe Reader software)
outlines the enrollment steps necessary for becoming a student. By completing the steps by the assigned deadlines, students will be eligible to attend one of our early New Student Orientations. At Orientation, students will meet with Counselors and register for Summer and Fall classes. Classes fill up quickly, so this is a great advantage for new students.
K-12 Registration
The term “special student” applies to all students who are currently in grades Kindergarten through 12 (K-12) and wish to enroll in Ohlone courses. In accordance with California Education Code regulations, K-12 students may enroll as special part-time students while they maintain their regular school attendance. Units earned may be used for high school credit and college credit. There is a seven-unit maximum per semester for K-12 students during Spring and Fall semesters and Summer term.
Enrolling in classes at Ohlone College is the first step in a college career. K-12 students will be expected to participate at a college level. Class materials and content may include adult language. Grades received at Ohlone College become part of a permanent college record. Students should make class selections accordingly with parent and principal guidance.
When to Start the K-12 Application Process?
Because multiple signatures are required, it is advisable to begin this process at least eight (8) weeks prior to the start of any term. Applications for Spring 2007 should be submitted by December 4, 2006 to ensure the earliest possible registration time.
Fees for K-12 Students
K-12 students are exempt from paying the California Community College Enrollment Fee ($20 per unit) but are subject to a $15 Health Services Fee, a $5 optional Student Activities Fee, a $5 Online Registration Access Fee, and a $5 optional Student Activities Fee, unless all classes are off campus.
