October 3, 2005

 

Call meeting to order:3:10 p.m.

Minute Approval:

Ø            Approval of Minutes: September 19, 2005. Motion to approve minutes with correction on pg. 2 paragraph one Dr. Norton Grubbs – Deb Parziale: Dr. Norton Grubbs talked about SLOAC Cycle Inquiry of Student Learning Outcomes. Deb Parziale/Jon Degallier. Motion carried.

 

 

Program Review Updates:

Ø            Math presentation - (Ron Staszkow, Bob Bradshaw, Jeff O’Connell)

Jeff O’Connell presented the Math departments program review. Jeff O’Connell gave a handout to the committee on the information that was presented. Questions were asked on how many student learning outcomes there should be. There should be less than ten, between four to six outcomes. Deb Parziale recommended the use of Bloom’s Taxonomy to help make outcomes more measurable.

 

Rob Smedfjeld presented his data templates that he is doing for each department. If departments need additional information they can contact him. In Datamart, information is listed by TOPs Codes. Datamart is located on the Community College Chancellor’s website. The information Rob presented he obtained from Datamart and Datatel. The question was brought up if we should show the TOPs Code on the Word Report for courses.

Course Revision Minor:

BIOT-110B Advanced Biotechnology Theory and Applications

Repeatability changed to “No”; delete UC transferable; Requisites add Prerequisite of CHEM-109 & BIOT 105, delete BIOT-110A, MATH-159, and SPCH 101. Minor revision to counselor information, student learning outcomes, course assignments, methods of evaluation, and update of textbook. Approved by Curriculum Committee Chair on September 9, 2005.

 

CAOT-148 Computer Applications in Biotechnology: Request for Distance Learning – Approved on September 13, 2005.

 

CS-180A MS Client Operating Systems. Minor revision to catalog description, class schedule and counselor information. Revision to student learning outcomes, course outline, course assignments, methods of evaluation and update of textbook. Approved by Curriculum Committee Chair on September 6, 2005.

 

CS-181 PC Hardware and Software. Removal of requisites, minor revision to catalog description, student learning outcomes, outline, course assignments, and updated textbook. Approved by Curriculum Committee Chair on September 9, 2005.

 

GEOL-101 Introduction to Geology. Minor revision to Corequisite add GEOL 101L taken concurrently with GEOL-101. Delete Eligible for ENGL-151B. Minor revision to catalog, schedule description, student learning outcomes, course outline, assignments, methods of evaluation/assessment, and updated textbook. Approved by Curriculum Committee Chair on September 9, 2005

New Course Approval (A):

 

CS-143 Advanced SAS Programming

3 units; 2.5 lecture hrs.; 1/5 lab hours; GC grade option; Advisory BIOT-133/CS-133 or some experience in SAS programming. Approved by Screeners on September 26, 2005

 

EDUC-191A Tutor Training Part I

.5 units; .5 hrs lecture; repeatable 3 times; Grade (CR); Limitation on Enrollment Concurrent employment as an Ohlone Tutor. Approved by Screeners on September 26, 2005. Motion to approve EDUC-191A. Deb Parziale/Chieko Honma. Motion carried.

 

EDUC-191B Tutor Training Part II

.5 units; .5 hrs lecture; repeatable 3 times; Grade (CR); Limitation on Enrollment Concurrent employment as an Ohlone Tutor. Approved by Screeners on September 26, 2005. Motion to approve EDUC-191A. Deb Parziale/Chieko Honma. Motion carried.

 

 

Program Revisions:

Speech and Communication Studies: Brenda Ahntholz presented.

Requesting ‘B’ Grade or better and 100% of the courses be taken at Ohlone with some exceptions, based on a case by case basis. The average grade given, are ‘B’s. It is a quality issue. Kay said this was modeled after WestValleyCollege, be is better than average. Motion to approve the Certificate programs in Speech and Communications must have B or better and 100% of the courses taken at Ohlone. Phil Zahorsky/Rachel Sherman. Motion carried.

 

AA-UNIX Administrator: Richard Grotegut presented.

Minor revision to course CS-147 removing the word UNIX from title and correction on typing error correction CS-1810 to read CS-180

 

AA-Net Administrator: Richard Grotegut presented.

Minor revision to course CS-152 add (Network+) to title; Deleted course CS-148A and added CS-185A and CS-185B

 

AA-PC Technician: Richard Grotegut presented.

Title Change of program from PC Technician (A+, Server, MCP) to Desktop Support Technician (A+, Network+, MCP); minor revision to name change for CS-152 add (Network+) to title, delete CS-157, add 2-Selected Topics CS-212, official courses are in the works, add CS-186E; change total number of units from 20 to 23. Under supporting courses delete CS-186E.

 

AA-Tech Support: Richard Grotegut presented.

Minor title change from Technical Support Specialist (A+, Server+, MCP) to Technical Support Specialist (A+, Network+, MCP); minor revision to name change for CS-152 add (Network+) to title.

 

AA-MCSE (Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer): Richard Grotegut presented.

Minor revision to name change for CS-152 add (Network+) to title.

 

Motion to approve pending course revision minor for CS-152 and CS-147. Deb Parziale/Jon Degallier. Motion carried.

 

 

Issues:

 

Ø            Lab ID Number: Jon Degallier and Lesley Buehler will assist in helping the Curriculum Committee establish Lab Login ID numbers. Jon and Chris assisted faculty in getting Lab ID logins.

Ø            Discussion on screening process. Need small groups. The screening meeting all Curriculum Committee members should be present. This will also be a good time for members to assist other faculty with CurricUNET training.

Ø               Issues with formatting on Mac’s in CurricUNET. There is still an issue with formatting in CurricUNET for those user’s of Mac’s. The suggested browser is Mozilla Firefox. Will need to discuss further with programmer on how we can correct this problem.
