Financial Aid FAFSA Workshops - Financial Aid Office
The Ohlone College Financial Aid Office is conducting new and renewal workshops to help students complete their FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) online. Students do not need to sign up, but may simply attend a workshop that best fits into their schedule.
Before attending a workshop, it's best to apply for a Personal Identification Number (PIN). The PIN is used an electronic signature. Go to www.pin.ed.gov to apply. If you have previously applied for financial aid, you already have a PIN. If you do not know your PIN, you can also go to www.pin.ed.gov and 2-5 days. Parents of students under 24 years old and considered a dependent student will also need a PIN.
To complete your FAFSA - new or renewal - you will need income information from the previous year. For the 2010-2011 academic year, you will need income information from the 2009 income tax filing year. Following are the documents you will need to complete the FAFSA:
- Social Security Number
- Driver's license (if any)
- Alien Registration card (for students who are not a U.S. citizen)
- W-2 forms and other records of money earned
- The student's (and spouse's if married) Federal Income Tax Return – IRS form 1040, 1040A, 1040EZ, foreign tax return, or tax return for Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, the U.S. Virgin Islands, the Marshall Islands, or the Federated States of Micronesia
- The parents' Federal Income Tax Return with all W-2s (for dependent students)
- Current bank statements
- Current business and investment mortgage information, business and farm records, stock, bond, and other investment records.
Students may conveniently obtain a Pre-Application Worksheet from the rack outside the Financial Aid Office to complete prior to submitting the FAFSA online.
If you have not applied for financial aid for this semester, it's not too late. You can attend a FAFSA workshop, bring your income information and associated documentation, and fill out your 2010-2011 application.
Don't re-apply, Renew your FAFSA.
Students who have previously filed a FAFSA will have all the previous information will be pre-filled. All students will need to do is correct any information that has changed and add in the updated income information.
