I. Review of previous minutes

  1. Approval of June 19th Board Retreat minutes:
    1. Moved by Shirley Sisk, Seconded Vicki O’ Gorman
    2. Motion passed unanimously
  2. Review of August 29th Executive Board minutes

 

II. Executive Director's Report – David Smith

  1. New aerial views of Newark campus - 9/14/07
  2. Community Forum on 9/13/07
    1. Gathered excellent ideas from the public
  3. Jan Vincent - update of the Newark Days booth
    1. Talked to people about buying clusters of bricks.  Think in terms of getting clusters such as a group for Kaiser or LOV
  4. Official brochures for the Brick program complete
  5. Capital Campaign
    1. Just about $300,000 in cash received
    2. Plus about $400,000 more in commitments
    3. Morgan Foundation - $200,000 received
    4. Fremont Bank $250,000 pledged
    5. Stopwaste.org $110,000 grant
    6. Weiner $100,000 pledged
    7. Cargill, ETM $25,000 each and others
    8. Engaged with Cisco, HP, others
  6. $100,000 challenge grant for the Brick program from the Foundation discussed at August 29th Executive Board Meeting (coming from the general fund)
    1. Bob Bradshaw – will represent Brick campaign to faculty
    2. Dr. Douglas Treadway and Bob Bradshaw - we can probably raise more than $100,000 from campus groups
    3. Action: Authorize $100,000 matching funds for ASOC, faculty, etc.

    1. Joanne Schultz – the Business Office is creating a spot at the cashier's window to buy bricks directly

  2. Save the Date card for the Green Tie Gala
    1. Looking for $25,000 Green Champion sponsor
    2. There will be different entitlements for each sponsorship

  1. Monday, January 28th will be the first day of classes at the Newark campus
  2. Thursday is the national teach-in about the environment, and the official building dedication
  3. We will have a booth at the October 22nd Golf Tournament to advertise Foundation events
  4. Over $17,000 in scholarships offered this semester
    1. New scholarship matrix
    2. Checklist for application requirements
    3. New scholarships offered from old funds
  5. Looking for new Board president at the end of this fiscal year

 

III. President's Report – Dr. Douglas Treadway

  1. Record enrollment for Ohlone's 40 years
  2. Frontage proposal
    1. Private development
    2. Will get bids on December 12 and then will 10 days to decide on the most favorable bid
    3. Generate $2 mil a year
  3. Bids to construct a parking structure at the Smith Center and possibly also at the gymnasium
    1. Solar PV array will also be built in
    2. These projects are not being funded by district money - they will be self sustaining
  4. We will be outsourcing IT management
  5. Expand attendance of board meetings
    1. Rick Geha - invite potential board members

 

IV. Financial Reports – Joanne Schultz

  1. Not included in the packet - they will be mailed out
  2. Investments did great
  3. General fund is also flourishing
  4. We have a budget - "stay tuned"

 

V. Meeting schedules

  1. Executive Board meeting on November 1st at 8:00 at the Foundation Office
  2. Jan Vincent - Monday is a difficult day for people
  3. Shirley – Cannot make Tuesday morning meetings
  4. Check to see if the Wed the 7th or the 8th is good for people

VI. Board Comments

  1. Our goals follow the district goals – presented Dr. Treadway’s annual report
  2. Monitor is also included to update us on the new campus
  3. Alberto Huezo - congratulates Dr. Douglas Treadway on record enrollment numbers
  4. LOV's Elegant Affaire will be 6 days after the Green Tie Gala – David Smith will MC
  5. Jan Vincent - Doug's annual report was outstanding.  Encourages all to attend next year.
  6. Dr. Douglas Treadway - have outside faces at the board meetings - next time we can have a presentation from the nursing program
