Fremont—The six rotary clubs of the Tri-City area will be honored next week as Ohlone College's Citizens of the Year at the school's annual Champagne Luncheon.
Tickets are still available for the luncheon, which is the Ohlone College Foundation's primary fundraiser to provide scholarships. This past year, the foundation provided more than $100,000 in scholarships to Ohlone students.
Scholarship winners will attend the luncheon as will members of all six Tri-City area rotary clubs: Fremont Rotary, Newark Rotary, Union City Rotary, Niles Rotary, Mission San Jose Rotary and Warm Springs/Sunrise Rotary.
The clubs have been instrumental in helping local nonprofits and raising funds for medical equipment and computer labs in countries throughout the world.
Current rotary projects include helping out at Cabrillo Elementary School in Fremont, providing laptops and mentoring high-risk high school students, supplying volunteer gift sorters and wrappers during Christmas at the Viola Blythe Community Service Center, raising money for the Blue Star Moms, running the Great Chili Cook-Off fundraiser and donating encyclopedias and dictionaries to Fremont elementary schools.
The luncheon is scheduled to start with an 11 a.m. reception. Food will be served from noon to 2 p.m. June 4 at the Ohlone College Newark Center, 39399 Cherry St. Tickets are $75 per person. To RSVP, call 510-659-6020 or email coy.ohlone.edu.
