Coming to Ohlone College is the best decision I have made in my college life. After taking courses here, I acknowledged that my dream of becoming a nurse was my family’s dream and not mine. Due to my experiences at Ohlone, I realized that I want to be a college counselor. My life has changed drastically because I now possess the clarity and understanding of my life plans. I want to get my BA in Psychology and then pursue my Masters degree in Academic Counseling, all towards my goal of becoming a college counselor.
My first professor at Ohlone taught me that choosing on a career is about discovering my passion and going for it. As an Ohlone student, I have created an identity that I will influence me for the rest of my life. I have been a member of the Associated Student of Ohlone College (ASOC) for three years. Last year, I was Vice President and currently serving as President. In addition to ASOC, I have also served as a Senior Peer Mentor and the Student Representative on the both College Council and Student Development Committee.
All these student committee positions have provided me opportunities to learn and grow as student leader. I have learned how to get along with others, networking skills, how to negotiate systems, and how to understand others strength and use that knowledge to create a strong team and persevere towards a goal. Learning all these skills has helped me become a stronger in communication such working in groups in class and getting our projects done with everyone helping and putting their input.
These are the things that I have benefited from here at Ohlone College, and still want to accomplish more. This scholarship will also allow me to continue studying at Ohlone and then transfer to a four year college to finish school and get my degree.
This scholarship will help me continue my path and fulfill my dream of becoming a college counselor. I would to return to Ohlone College one day as a counselor, helping students just as the current counselors have helped me achieve my dreams.
