“I broke away from abusive parents at 23 years of age and those whom have helped me have been friends and acquaintances, many of whom I had met at Ohlone.”

I am an African-American student who is active in APASA (Asian-Pacific American Student Association), the Chinese Student Association, and International Club. I am attending college to pursue my goal in filmmaking (producing, acting, writing and directing) and learn an Asian foreign language, which I would like to utilize in my filmmaking and writing. On that same note of writing, I would like to pursue that art in forms such as non-fiction, novels, short stories, comic books, stage-plays and teleplays.

As we all know, attending college, and making a living is a challenge, and this scholarship will assist me in making those goals a bit close to being achieved. (I am already familiar with being temporarily homeless, as well as going without food for several days). I do not have a family, as I broke away from abusive parents at 23 years of age (I am 34 now) and those whom have helped me have been friends and acquaintances, many of whom I had met at Ohlone.

As stated above, I am nearing my final term at Ohlone College. I am looking to further my education as a transfer student at a University of California, California State University or out-of-state college, and attain a Bachelors degree in Film, double majoring in either an Asian foreign language or Asian Studies, going even further with a Masters degree, then possibly to a Ph.D.

I hope to be working in my intended field while I pursue my Master’s and Ph.D.
