My name is Lauren Rose Baca. I am nineteen years old. I have been a local resident of the Bay Area my entire life and attended Newark Memorial High school until I graduated in 2007. While in high school I participated in swimming, cheerleading and track. I also did leadership my senior year and had the most volunteer hours out of my entire class.
I am currently involved in the Associated Students of Ohlone College (ASOC) and hold the position of Student Board Member on the Ohlone College Board of Trustees. I am seeking another term and hope to be re-elected very soon.
I enjoy walking my dog and spending time with my family and friends as well as watching movies and eating good food. I keep very busy due to the fact I am also currently involved in the Liberated Individuals for the Environment Club (L.I.F.E.), the Bond Oversight Committee and the Seat Registration Committee, as well as having served on the Safety Committee, Hyman Hall Furnishing and the Newark ASOC Room Committee.
I am the oldest of four children and my father is currently unemployed. This scholarship is greatly appreciated and will definitely be put to good use. This is my second year at Ohlone and I am looking forward to transferring within the next year or so. I would love to transfer to Berkley or the University of Hawaii and I feel that Ohlone was definitely the best place to start. I would like to own my own business one day and always look forward to the future. My parents are my inspiration due to the fact they have worked very hard in the business field since they both graduated from Cal State East Bay about 20 years ago. Education is very important to me and this scholarship is very beneficial because I pay for most of my education. This scholarship will allows me to further my education and expand my knowledge.
