Since the age of 12, I have had a strong vision of becoming a highly competent, dedicated, and compassionate nurse, respectfully and selflessly caring for others. For the past ten years, I have dedicated myself to gain knowledge and to mold myself to develop the characteristics that would help me excel as a nurse- this is my dream, and every day it is coming true. I live, breathe, eat, sleep, and dream nursing. Now at the age of 23, I have a year to graduate and receive my RN license, and will continue my education to achieve a B.S. in nursing.
Throughout college I have volunteered at different organizations. Volunteering has played a large part in my life, and has helped prepare me to become a better nurse. Helping those in severe distress has taught me to respond patiently and appropriately. I have also sought mentors to help me understand the practical aspects of nursing, and have been fortunate to have some wonderful nurse mentors whose dedication has inspired me even more to reach my goals.
My father is a single parent; and although I have always worked and contributed to our household finances prior to starting my nursing classes, I am unable to aid in our finances now, as the RN program at Ohlone College is extremely rigorous. I feel I must dedicate myself academically in order to maintain my studies and achieve my goals. This scholarship will help to pay for my academic expenses and the cost of the long commute from my home in San Jose to attend school in Newark and my nursing clinicals in Hayward. I am very grateful for this financial support. I am a determined, focused individual who achieves set goals. With the Ohlone Foundation scholarship, it will be money well spent.
