I am committed to continuing my education so in the future I can teach others. Education is one of the most important tools to create a stronger economy and more prosperous society. My personal and career goals are closely interlinked. A few years ago I had a paradigm shift in how I viewed my career. What I learned is that even more important than monetary compensation in a job is the personal satisfaction in helping others. This is the secret to a successful life.
My current goal is to turn my interests into a successful career. Returning to college has allowed me the opportunity to explore and redefine what my interests are. In particular, the Environmental Studies classes I have completed have given me a vast amount of knowledge in subjects that I thought I already knew a lot about. I worked in the education industry focusing on the future of our next generations. I plan to continue this in my career but with a focus on the future of the planet rather than the individual. I plan to continue to gain skills that will help me inspire other people. One of the greatest things college has made me realize is that the more I learn the more I still have to learn.
I returned to college to take some classes part time to gain skills that will help me with my career transition. After a couple of semesters I realized that I also wanted to transfer to a four year college and earn a bachelor’s degree and possibly a master’s degree. Transitioning from working full time to being a full time student is a struggle. I’m not alone in taking in less money and spending more for school. I have learned how to live with a tight budget that utilizes several part time jobs, school loans, and the draining of my savings and retirement accounts. While I look at the upcoming years of education with great enthusiasm, I am frightened by the reality that I may not be able to reach my educational goals due to the financial constraints. I have humbly started seeking help from others. This scholarship allows me the opportunity to continue my higher learning.
