  • Washington Hospital Healthcare System Scholarship

I want to attend college because I know that it will instill in me the knowledge, skills and confidence that I need to become a medical doctor. As a physician I would like to improve and encourage better health in my community; and also instill in my patients the desire to be healthy and to pass on that mentality to others. While in high school I knew that college would provide more opportunities and insight into my future career, so I made the decision to test out a year early and attend Ohlone. Along with taking the required classes to earn a biology transfer degree, I am working in the school's biology lab and volunteer at the Fremont Kaiser Permanente hospital in the emergency department. I have become a better student because I have taken every advantage the school has given me to achieve my goals and experience them in the working field. It is important to me that someday I will live in a country where diseases like diabetes, obesity and cancer are not as prevalent.

The money from this scholarship will be an immense help to me because I will be able to use it towards educational expenses such as textbooks and tuition. I will also be able to use the money towards enhancing my educational experience through student workshops, internships and seminars. Certificates and recommendations from these programs will often give me the competitive edge that I need when applying for graduate and medical schools. Medical school is very expensive and I want to feel confident that I have prepared myself financially for it. I know that I am capable of becoming a successful physician and I don't want anything to hold me back from achieving that goal.
