I want to attend college right now because I'm currently unemployed. About two years ago I was a Nurse Assistant and I always said “when I have the time to go back to school I will for nursing”. Now I’m following my heart and now I’m working on becoming a R.N. I’m a full time student raising two children 5 and 3yrs old. Even though we are struggling I’m still going to class and they see that. I hope it motivates my children to want to go to college after they graduate from high school. Therefore I have to keep at my goal, stay in school and keep pushing and fighting towards becoming a nurse. My personal goal right now is to be able to build a foundation for my children, to be able to have a home for us and don’t have to worry about where we are going to live, and to be able to afford things that we need. It’s not about me anymore it’s about my children and protecting them.
This scholarship will help me because I am dealing with too many obstacles and I don’t want them to stop me from going to school. My children and I are staying in a shelter due to us not having a home of our own. But I don’t let that bring me down and just give up on school because I want to become a nurse. The money would help facilitate housing, be able to maintain my bills, be able to put money aside for my fall classes, and school supplies for me and my children as well. Every day is a struggle for me and my children; not having enough money for breakfast so we can function in the morning and not having enough transportation to and from to three different schools are situations that I struggle with. And over all we still look forward every morning to going to school. I’m surviving off unemployment and that is very little when one has two children. My children are the reason I’m pushing towards my goal of becoming an R.N.
