Network Password Is Required To Access The Network
The network connection allows you access to:
- Network printer(s)
- Netscape Communicator functions (Email, Web Browser & Calendar)
- Your network folders
The "Enter Network Password" dialog box should only need you to fill in the password information
- Enter your password
- Click the "OK" button
- If your password is accepted you will next see the Windows 9x desktop
- If your password is not accepted you will see the below dialog box
- Click the "OK" button will allow you to use the computer without network capabilities
My password doesnt work! (I forgot my password!) What do I do?
Submit a service request to Desktop Computer Support Helpdesk @ x7333.
- Inform them that you have forgotten your password and would like a temporary password to login to the network
- Your old password will be over written with a new temporary password, which they will provide you
- Use the temporary login password right away and follow the password changing process on the next page
Note: A network password expires after 90 days
Password recommendations
Remember that Passwords are Case-Sensitive
- Do Not write your Password down
- Make it 6 to 8 characters long
- Make a combination of capital and small letters and throw in at least one number
- Do not make it an obvious word, such as your name, your spouse's name or the names of your children
- Change your Password at least once per semester
The Password Changing Process
- Left click the mouse button on the "ý Start" button located on the Task bar
- Select the Settings command
- Select the Control Panel submenu command
- Release the mouse button

- Place the mouse arrow over the Passwords icon (keys)
- Left click the mouse button to select & proceed
Use the Password Properties dialog box to "Change Windows Password"
- Select the "Change Password" tab
- Click the "Change Windows Password

- Click the "Details>>" button to see this expanded view of the dialog box
- Enter the temporary password in the "Old Password" text box
- Enter your new password twice, once in the "New password" text box and again in the "Confirm new password" text box
- Click "OK" button when you complete your entries
Caution: Remember the correct spelling of your Password and use this same
Password for your email and to access the network calendar. Otherwise
you will have to remember three different passwords.
After this initial setup you will enter the Password at startup and when
accessing your email and network calendar.
A dialog box may say your Password is outdated
Don't worry. Now is the time to replace that old Password with a new one of your own choice, so Click OK.
If your password is outdated, another dialog box will appear with 3 fields
- Old Password:
- New Password:
- Confirm New Password:
In the Old Password Field, there should be a string of ****** representing
your old password. Tab to or click in the New Password field. Type your
New Password. Tab to Confirm New Password field. Retype your newly made
up Password. Click OK.

I do?
Contact either the Network System Administrator, Patrick Lane @ 7337 or
the Helpdesk for Desktop Computers @ 7333.
- Inform them that your password does not work and that you would like to have them overwrite and assign a temporary password to access email/calendar functions
- The Helpdesk will over write your password with a new temporary password, which they will provide to you
- Use the temporary login password right away and follow the Email password changing process on the next page
Changing Your Email / Calendar Password
- Open Netscape; Communicator - Navigator (web browser)
- In the "Go to:" text box type: https://mail.ohlone.edu/
- Press the "Enter" key on your keyboard and your computer
display should look very similar to the display below
- In the Username and Password Required dialog box enter
1. Your User name (first initial followed by your last name)
2. The temporary password given to you by the Network System Administrator or the Helpdesk for Desktop Computers staff member
- Click the "OK" button
