LEED: Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design
The LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System® is a voluntary, national standard for developing high-performance, sustainable buildings. LEED provides a point-based framework for assessing building performance and meeting sustainability goals, emphasizing state-of-the-art strategies for sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality. Ohlone College Newark Center for Health Sciences and Technology will meet requirements for LEED Gold certification for sustainable buildings.

- Energy Generation: 600 Kilowatt array of solar panels produces 30% of building’s energy use
- Energy Conservation: Geothermal and other conservation measures result in 25% improvement in energy performance

Green building design and construction, Brownfield redevelopment; alternative transportation; water efficient landscaping and water use; optimal energy performance; diversion of 50-75% of construction waste; use of recycled content products; local materials utilization; low-emitting materials; thermal comfort; design innovation; and the retention of a LEED® accredited professional.
