What to Expect at a New Student Orientation
Orientation is an important first step in each student’s partnership with Ohlone College to develop and realize their educational goals. Attendance for the entire Orientation is required for all New Students and includes the following information:
- Ohlone Resources and Services,
- Study skills and other strategies for college success,
- Math and English placement results,
- One-on-one advising with an Ohlone College Counselor,
- Creation of an individual class schedule and registration for classes,
- Students rights and responsibilities, and
- Requirements for associate degrees and/or transfer.
Who Should Attend a New Student Orientation?
Attendance for the entire Orientation is required for all New Students except for those who meet an Orientation exemption. The following information is covered at Orientation: Ohlone College Resources and Services, Study skills and other strategies for college success, Math and English placement results, One-on-one advising with an Ohlone College Counselor, Creation of an individual class schedule and registration for classes, Students rights and responsibilities, and Requirements for associate degrees and/or transfer.
New Student Orientation Exemptions
Students who meet one of the following exemptions are encouraged, but not required to attend a New Student Orientation.
- have completed 30 or more college units from an accredited college
- are taking only activity or personal enrichment courses (ND.PRS)
- are enrolled in high school while taking Ohlone College courses
- are only taking summer classes
If you meet one of these exemptions please send an email to orientation@ohlone.edu, stating how you meet the exemption and you will be cleared from your New Student Orientation requirement.
Ohlone College Fremont Campus buildings. New Student Orientation Options
These options are available for students to complete the New Student Orientation requirement:
- In Person: Students must attend a three (3) hour New Student Orientation at the end of which they will enroll in courses for the upcoming semester. Schedule of In Person Orientations. If you are unable to attend an in person orientation, please email orientation@ohlone.edu and explain why you cannot attend an in person orientation session.
- ESL students: Please review ESL Orientation and Placement information.
Students will need to reserve a seat in the in-person orientation by using our web-based scheduling system (recommended) or at the Counseling Window (Room 7249, Building 7, third floor, Fremont campus). Students will be able to reserve a seat up to 30 days prior to the date of the orientation.
