Outreach at Ohlone College
Outreach and recruitment events are coordinated through the Counseling and Student Success Division. Our goals are to attract and recruit students from diverse backgrounds to attend Ohlone College, support students in their transition to the campus, and promote overall college access and student success. We work closely with local high schools and community groups to provide information about the educational opportunities at Ohlone.
General Outreach: We provide outreach services to local high schools and community members. Through sharing information about our campus, student services, academic success, and the overall benefits of obtaining a college education, we help prepare students for a successful transition to college. This is done through classroom workshops, event tabling, and presentations at local community sites. We can also focus on specific topics that best fit the needs of the school or site.
Campus Tours: If you are interested in seeing what our campus has to offer in person, schedule a tour with one of our Peer Mentors.
Peer Mentor Program: Current Ohlone students visit local high schools to share their experiences, talk about campus programs and resources, and assist new students and parents in the transition to college.
Application Workshops: We offer college workshops at high schools during spring to assist graduating seniors in completing our application process and taking the next steps to enroll at Ohlone.
College & Career Fairs: We participate in local college fairs representing Ohlone College to provide information about our campus services and programs. We also participate in local fairs focusing on certificate and workforce development programs.
Freshman Days: This event allows high school seniors to register early for fall classes at Ohlone, and features a parent/family orientation as well.
Placement Testing: We work with our Placement Testing Center staff to coordinate testing at select area high schools, following application workshops.
Student Follow-Up: Our staff, counselors, and Peer Mentors follow-up with new and prospective students to help connect them with support programs and services on campus. This is done through events such as New Student Orientation and Welcome Day.
